Dealing with roof repairs can sometimes be tricky. Not every homeowner has the cash on hand to be able to afford a serious roof repair immediately, although in many cases homeowner’s insurance should help cover certain damages. If you notice a problem with your roof, then honestly, you shouldn’t wait more than a day or two to have it fixed – especially if the weather forecast in the next couple of days isn’t looking too good.
The following are some of the more common roof issues you might run into, and whether or not they require emergency roof repairs.
- Leaks – Leaks can be caused by something as simple as a clogged gutter to more serious roof problems such as deteriorated flashing. Flashing is meant to carry water away from your roofing materials. If the flashing has begun to deteriorate, then the nails, joints and seams underneath it will be exposed to the weather, which can result in some serious leaks. These aren’t the only ways that leaks can be caused. A cracked ridge cap can result in water seeping in and traveling down to your roofing material as well. Leaks should be fixed as soon as possible to avoid the development of even more serious and costly problems. Water leaks can end up causing damage to your roof, the structure of your home and to the possessions inside your home if you let them go for too long.
- Loose granules – One of the things that you should be looking for when you inspect your roof is loose granules. The way to look for them is by checking your gutters. If you see granules in your gutters, it means that your shingles are wearing down. This means that your roof is going to have to be replaced eventually. This isn’t necessarily an emergency. However, the longer you put it off, the better the chances are of other issues developing because your roof has reached the end of its lifespan.
- Poor installation – Sometimes, different components of your roof weren’t installed right the first time around, which can reduce the life expectancy of your roof. As long as any poor workmanship is corrected eventually, your roof will last longer.
Every roof problem should be looked at immediately – however, emergency roof repairs should be done as soon as possible to avoid more serious and costly damage to your roof.
